<\/a>The SpaceX Crew Dragon Resilience spacecraft\u00a0with astronauts Michael Hopkins<\/a>,\u00a0Victor Glover<\/a>, and\u00a0Shannon Walker<\/a> of NASA, and\u00a0Soichi Noguchi<\/a>\u00a0of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)\u00a0inside\u00a0undocked\u00a0from the\u00a0space-facing port of the\u00a0International Space Station\u2019s Harmony module\u00a0at 8:35 p.m. EDT\u00a0to\u00a0complete\u00a0a six-month\u00a0science mission<\/a>.<\/p>\n Two very small engine burns separated Crew Dragon from the station, and\u00a0the spacecraft is slowly maneuvering away from the orbital laboratory into an orbital track that will return the astronaut crew and its cargo safely to Earth.<\/p>\n Once flying free, Crew Dragon Resilience will autonomously execute four departure burns to move the spaceship away from the space station and begin the flight home.<\/p>\n The return timeline\u00a0with\u00a0approximate times in EDT is:<\/p>\n May 1<\/strong><\/p>\n May 2<\/strong><\/p>\n NASA will continue to provide\u00a0live coverage\u00a0until Resilience splashes down\u00a0off the coast of Florida and the Crew-1 astronauts are recovered from the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n NASA\u2019s SpaceX\u00a0Crew-1<\/a> mission launched Nov. 15, 2020<\/a>, on a Falcon 9 rocket from the agency\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The astronauts named the spacecraft Resilience, in honor of their families, colleagues, and fellow citizens and highlighting the dedication displayed by the teams involved with the mission and demonstrating that there is no limit to what humans can achieve when they work together.
