At\u00a03:41\u00a0a.m.\u00a0EST,\u00a0the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, carrying\u00a0NASA astronauts\u202fZena\u00a0Cardman<\/a>\u202fand\u00a0Mike Fincke, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency)\u00a0astronaut\u202fKimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov\u00a0splashed down\u00a0off the coast of\u00a0San Diego, California.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This completes a stay\u00a0in space\u00a0of\u00a0167\u00a0days\u00a0for\u00a0the four-person crew.\u00a0The mission returned to Earth\u00a0earlier than originally planned<\/a>\u00a0as teams\u00a0monitored\u00a0a medical concern with a crew member living and working aboard the orbital laboratory. The crew member is stable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Teams\u00a0aboard\u00a0the recovery ship, including two fast boats, are securing the SpaceX Dragon and ensuring the spacecraft is safe for the recovery effort. As the fast boat teams complete their work, the recovery ship will move into position to hoist Dragon onto the main deck with the astronauts inside. Once on the main deck, the crew will egress the spacecraft.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

NASA previously announced all four crew members will be transported to a local hospital for\u00a0additional\u00a0evaluation, taking advantage of medical resources on Earth to provide the best care possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following a planned overnight hospital stay, the crew will return to NASA\u2019s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where they will reunite with their families and undergo standard post-flight reconditioning and evaluations. Due to medical privacy, it is not\u00a0appropriate for\u00a0NASA to share more details about the crew member.\u00a0<\/p>\n
