NASA, Northrop Grumman, and SpaceX are accelerating the next commercial resupply flight to the International Space Station to maximize launch opportunities following an assessment of mission readiness. NASA\u00a0now is\u00a0targeting no earlier than 6:11 p.m. EDT, Sunday, Sept. 14, for the launch of a Northrop Grumman Cygnus XL on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.<\/p>\n

The Cygnus XL spacecraft will deliver more than\u00a011,000\u00a0pounds of science, research, and supplies* to the orbital complex, including materials to produce\u00a0semiconductor crystals<\/a>\u00a0in space and equipment to develop improvements for\u00a0cryogenic fuel tanks<\/a>. The spacecraft also will deliver a\u00a0specialized UV<\/a>\u00a0light system to prevent biofilm growth and supplies to produce\u00a0pharmaceutical crystals<\/a>\u00a0that could treat cancer and other diseases.NASA\u00a0is targeting\u00a0arrival\u00a0of the Cygnus XL spacecraft and its installation aboard the space station on Wednesday, Sept. 17.<\/p>\n
