into the next canyon.\u00a0It is always true that we are going somewhere no one has been before\u00a0\u2013\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0the idea of\u00a0an exploratory mission\u00a0after all, and everyone\u00a0kind of gets\u00a0used to it, we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0stop to think about it.\u00a0But today,\u00a0coming over the top of a hill like this\u00a0and\u00a0fully\u00a0looking for the first time into an area that we\u00a0have only had glimpses of before,\u00a0it really brings it home that the mission is doing something extraordinary, something out of this world\u00a0\u2026.\u00a0and brings\u00a0that feeling of\u00a0awe\u00a0back into focus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0did not pass\u00a0SRAP\u00a0(Slip Risk Assessment Process) a couple of times as we climbed up\u00a0the\u00a0side of this canyon, meaning that the\u00a0contact science instruments (APXS and MAHLI) had to stand down for that day\u2019s planning.\u00a0However, this\u00a0morning, in addition to a\u00a0brand new\u00a0vista, we saw that all\u00a0six wheels\u00a0are\u00a0firmly on the\u00a0ground\u00a0and\u00a0we passed SRAP quickly this morning, which must\u00a0have been a relief to the rover planner in charge of assessing it today!\u00a0(no one wants to be the bearer of\u00a0bad news, day after day!)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bedrock here has both flat bedrock and\u00a0amazing large nodular features, which appear to have \u201cwind tails\u201d caused by winds consistently blowing\u00a0in the same direction.\u00a0This is a Touch and Go plan, so APXS and MAHLI are focusing on\u00a0a single\u00a0target, the brushed \u201cCoronado\u201d target on the flat bedrock in front of us.\u00a0ChemCam will use LIBS to investigate the nodular features at \u201cLa Cumbre Peak.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Near the rover,\u00a0Mastcam\u00a0will image\u00a0some small\u00a0diagenetic features at \u201cBoulder Oaks\u201d and the LIBS target.\u00a0The 3\u00d72 (2 rows of 3 images) \u201cLa Jolla Valley\u201d mosaic\u00a0focuses on a very nodular patch, just outside of the workspace\u00a0reachable\u00a0by the arm.\u00a0Further from the rover,\u00a0the 6\u00d72\u00a0mosaic\u00a0(2 rows of 6 images)\u00a0\u201cLos\u00a0Penasquitos\u201d\u00a0looks at\u00a0an\u00a0amazing almost vertical vein.
