NASA and SpaceX are targeting a two-hour launch window opening at 5:16 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 25, for the GOES-U launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NOAA\u2019s GOES-U satellite will carry a suite of instruments for advanced imagery, atmospheric measurements, real-time mapping of lightning activity, and detecting approaching space weather hazards, including a new compact coronagraph that will image the outer layer of the Sun\u2019s atmosphere to detect and characterize coronal mass ejections.<\/p>\n

This event is designed for people who:\u00a0<\/p>\n Users on all social networks are encouraged to use the hashtag #NASASocial<\/a> and #ReadyToGOES<\/a>. Updates and information about the event will be shared via @NASASocial<\/a> and @NASAKennedy<\/a> on X and via posts to Facebook<\/a> and Instagram<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Registration for this event opens Thursday, May 9, and closes at 3 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, May 14. Registration is for one person only (you) and is nontransferable. Each individual wishing to attend must register separately. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.\u00a0<\/p>\n Because of the security deadlines, registration is limited to U.S. citizens. If you have a valid permanent resident card, you will be processed as a U.S. citizen.\u00a0<\/p>\n After registrations have been received and processed, an email with confirmation information and additional instructions will be sent to those selected.
